Ruth F. Riley

Ruth F. Riley 94 of Green Bank passed away Friday, January 4, 2013 at Pocahontas Center in Marlinton.

Ruth was born February 3 1918 at Durbin to the late Clarence Edward and Edith Arbogast Flynn.

Ruth was a 1936 Green Bank High School graduate and a Marshall University graduate,  she taught in one room school houses in Pocahontas County at Oak Hill, Wesley Chapel, Kerr and Old Lick before teaching first grade at Cass Elementary and then Green Bank Elementary, where she retired in 1973.  She was a member of Cass Chapter 124 Eastern Star, joining on March 7, 1950. She was also a member of the Arbovale United Methodist Church.

Other than her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband June Riley and a sister, Evelyn Sutton.

Survivors include her daughter, Donna Riley DePue and husband Sam of Athens; son, Edward Lear Riley and wife Charlotta of Mill Point; grandchildren, Joe Riley and wife Sarah of Mill Point, Sara Riley Boothe and husband Oka of Princeton, Aaron DePue and wife Shannon of Morgantown and Andy DePue of Princeton; great grandchildren, Kayla, James, Silas, Hazel, Isabella Blayne and Avalynn.

Services will be 1:00 PM on Monday January 7, 2013 at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home with Rev. David Rittenhouse officiating.  Burial will follow at the Arbovale Cemetery.

Friends may call on Sunday January 6, 2013 from 5pm – 7pm at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers donation may be made to the Pocahontas Center Auxilary, PO Box 500, Marlinton, WV 24954

  Sorry I missed the viewing yesterday, did not know until Sam Sheets sent me an e-mail.  I'm really sorry for your great loss - I know she will be greatly missed.  It is not easy to let go but the fact that she will not be suffering anymore is a relief.  Your Mother and also your father made great contributions to education in Pocahontas County.  Your father really impressed me at Cass when he visited my 8th grade class by showing us what (old) modern math was all about.  God Bless you.  I'm at 799-4476 if I can assist in anything.

  Dear Donna,
  I wanted to let me know that my heart ached for you and your family every time I saw your Mom in Marlinton.  Mom was just there for a month and a half and now has peace in heaven.  Your Mom will now have that same peace and will join Mr. Riley and my parents there too.  It's hard to give up our parents isn't it.  I have wonderful memories of my Dad and Mom and I'm sure that you do too Donna.
